The base of the e-liquid of the electronic cigarettes is a mixture composed of distilled water, propylene glycol or PG (Propylene Glycol), and vegetable glycerine or VG (Vegetable Glycerin) – used for large vaping clouds and sub-ohm vaping, the latter two also used as food additives.

The vaper can then choose between different flavours to add a note of flavour to his vape, and there are lots of every taste! The flavour may already be in a bottle or sold separately from it, depending on the type of liquid for electronic cigarettes.

Liquids for electronic cigarettes can contain nicotine (in a concentration between 6 and 26 mg/ml), or you can choose liquids that are free of this substance. As with the flavour, there is the possibility that nicotine can be sold separately from the bottle.

There are various types of e-liquids on the market, some ready to use and others that allow the vaper to create the best e-liquid for his needs.

The taste and sensations that the electronic cigarette can give you depend on many factors, in particular: the throat hit, the flavour and the nicotine. If the percentage of PG is higher, the throat hit will be more significant (such as with a ratio of 70 to 30). With a 50 and 50 ratio, the more generous amount of vegetable glycerin (high VG) present in the e-liquid will give it an appearance more similar to essential oil, the vapour will be denser, while the hit will be softer.

Then, the vaper can choose aromatized e-liquids, to add flavour and uniqueness to his vape. There are many flavours to choose, from fruity to sweet (sherbet, watermelon, raspberry, blueberry, blackcurrant, mixed berries, mango, apple …) creamy (with aniseed, custard, vanilla and caramel notes and other dessert flavours) or menthol (green mint, peppermint, ice menthol e-liquid …) flavour. However, if you don’t want to give up the smell and taste of classic smoke, you can throw yourself on the tobacco flavours, and you won’t regret it.

E-liquids, even with flavour, can contain nicotine (the “nic shot”), usually, with a concentration between 6 and 26 mg/ml, which is the maximal nicotine strength allowed) or be devoid of it, and it is possible to scale the concentration of this substance up to totally eliminate it if you want to decrease the physical dependence of the nicotine gradually.

Unlike traditional cigarettes, in electronic cigarettes, there is no combustion of tobacco, but simple heating of the vape liquid to a much lower temperature. It means that both the toxic gases contained in the smoke and the damage associated with combustion are significantly reduced.

Tar is wholly avoided, one of the most harmful substances associated with smoking.

The sensory experience is very similar to that of the cigarette, but with more limited risks. It allows you to replace the cigarette without completely giving up your habits.

The variable amount of nicotine up to 0 in e-liquids, then allows you to progressively reduce the amount in the liquid and so to decrease the physical dependence effect that this substance creates. Therefore, in the case of e-liquids with nicotine, it is necessary to be careful not to ingest the liquid from the refills and not to use the electronic cigarette while lying down, as the liquid could leak out of the bottle, despite the safety devices. 

Tobacco products, free nicotine products or liquids with nicotine?

First of all, cigarette with tobacco is hazardous for human health, because while smoking, tobacco burns (or combusts), creating thousands of dangerous chemicals for the human body (for example, tar).

Nicotine can cause an increase in blood pressure, heart rate, the blood flow to the heart and a narrowing of the arteries. Nicotine is also a dangerous substance because it is very addictive. Nicotine dependence develops over time as a person continues to use it (and it’s present in all tobacco products)

Anyway, thanks to vaping, it’s possible to control the nicotine strength and so starting with a liquid with significant nicotine strengths and, step by step, try to reduce it to arrive to eliminate it from your liquids. Vaping liquids with nicotine strengths equal to 0 eliminate the dangerous risks of the nicotine and the combustion. So, the only risk existing with this kind of e-liquids, it’s just the risk living vaping, but of course, till now, there are no studies that prove some real dangerous threat doing it. Of course, these kinds of reviews are recent, so the possibility we will discover in the future something hazardous for a human being in vaping, still exists.

The packages of e-liquids containing nicotine must indicate their concentration. It also requested that the toxicity symbols be affixed and established that minors under 16 cannot purchase e-liquids that contain nicotine (because it is an addictive substance).

The European Directive 2014/40 / EU, providing for a whole series of measures that guarantee the safety of consumers. In particular:

• any health risks and possible toxicity must be displayed both on the label and on the package leaflet;
